On September 15th, voters across New Castle County’s Third District will cast their ballots in the Democratic Primary to decide who will advance to the general election, and likely represent them on County Council next year. But you may not be able to join them.

Delaware’s primaries are closed, which means only members of each party can vote. If you’re not a registered Democrat, you won’t be able to vote in September.

While the election may be just under four months away, the deadline to register with a party is coming up on May 29th.

This means that a growing portion of Delaware’s eligible voter base is ineligible to vote in the statewide primary, but may not realize it. In fact, Unaffiliated voters now outnumber registered Republicans in Delaware.

Don’t worry, registering with a party is easy, and only takes a few minutes.

Voters can visit the Department of Elections website and change their registration online.

All voters should check their registration online at ivote.de.gov to make sure their address and registration is up to date, and that they know their polling location.

I’m ready to serve as your next County Councilman, but I can’t do it without your vote on September 15th… and you can’t vote if you’re not a registered Democrat.

So take a minute, check your registration, and if you haven’t joined the party, register as a Delaware Democrat.
