Our campaign just made history!

On Friday, I officially filed my candidacy for New Castle County Council’s Third District, setting up the first-ever Democratic Primary in the district since Council’s 1996 re-organization.

Since announcing my run for office, I’ve heard from residents across our district who are ready for a new voice on Council, and I’m excited to make history again this Fall as your next Councilman.

The Third District is a special place that needs representation ready for its unique challenges.

We’re home to large State and County parks, pieces of Downtown Newark up to Yorklyn, and over 45,000 people who want a community they can afford to live in.

As residents struggle with the rising cost of childcare, housing, energy, healthcare and basic necessities, we need new ideas and a plan to make life more affordable for everyone from young families to seniors.

Last weekend, I joined Indivisible Newark’s Candidate Meet and Greet to talk with members of our community and hear their concerns. The County’s budget was top of mind for many as a proposed tax increase threatens to worsen our affordability crisis.

While the proposed budget takes strides to reduce costs in many departments – ultimately cutting $18.5M in spending – the budget’s proposed 17.2% tax increase is only a start toward closing the county’s structural deficit.

As hearings continue, I’ll make sure to keep you informed of how this budget will impact our district and the county as a whole.

We’ve got a long road to the primary in September, but I’m excited for what the next four months have in store and I hope you’ll continue to support our campaign in this race.
