Flowers and trees have finished blooming and the summer heat is here. Now something new is popping up across our district that only happens every other year – the yard signs are here!

While campaigns won’t start placing signs along the road until mid-August, voters are able to show their support for candidates with yard signs at any time in an election cycle and our supporters have them popping up in Newark, Hockessin and Pike Creek already.

What if my HOA bans yard signs?

Here’s the good news: In Delaware, they can’t!

I’ve heard from a few district residents that their HOA bans signs outright, or they’ve put a sign out and been told to remove it.

In Delaware, political yard signs are protected by Delaware Code Title 25, Chapter 81, Subchapter III – most specifically, § 81-320(c).

While an HOA can restrict where signs may be placed and how long they can be displayed, an HOA cannot outright ban them. Any restrictions on the display of signs also, “must be reasonable.”

If your HOA has an existing ban on yard signs, let our campaign know and we’ll be happy to work with them to bring restrictions into compliance with Delaware law.

The first debate of the campaign is tomorrow night, Monday evening, June 15th, from 7-9pm at the Hockessin Memorial Fire Hall!
